Winter Additional information
The driving is slow when there is snow on the road. It really is quite safe. It is probably safer then
non-snow time because people can't go fast. You will need to take chains. Try to get them at home before you
go. They may have them at the Walmart or the Gas station at the bottom of the hill off the Highland Exit. Try
to get them and practice putting them on before you leave your house, so you know how. If there is a storm, you
will be required to use the chains about half way up the hill. They will make you turn around and go back down
the hill to get them if you don't have them.
Try to travel ONLY in the daylight. Give yourself 2 hours more then you think it will take to get there if
there is a storm. Aim at getting there before 5:00 pm to avoid black ice.
They will tow you if you are in the way and the snow plow comes through. We try to get it plowed as soon as
possible after each snow so it doesn't build up.
Snow Removal
The people responsible for removing the snow don't always get snow at the same time or volume
as the Chalet does. Some families and groups prefer to shovel themselves. There are shovels in
the garage. But call me as soon as you want me to ask the snow removal crew to show up.
This same crew will install or even supply chains for your car if you didn't arrive with them.
Snow Chain Installation & Purchase
Ricardo Rayas will install or even supply chains for your car if you didn't arrive with them. And he
will come to the Chalet. (909) 913-6065 You can call or text him. This is a private service for a nominal fee.
Arrival
If you arrive early (after 12:00 noon) you are welcome to use the canoes & kayaks (in the summer). Just
call me 858-277-6444 to get the paddles and life jackets. But you can NOT take anything into
the house or leave "just a few things" in the garage. The cleaning staff knows what is supposed to
be in the house. All personal items will be removed and assumed to be the possessions of the previous
renters. ABSOLUTLY NO ACCESS UNTIL THE CLEANING CREW IS DONE!
When you arrive, if there is a rope across the steps to the front door, the maids are not done. PLEASE
don't bother them. If the rope is gone you can go up. But, if it is early your code will not work until
the time stated. Call me 858-277-6444 if this happens.
Garage and Parking
The door to the garage is to the right under the stairs, after you enter the house. There are keys to
the boat locks and Pontoon boat and a garage door clicker on the key rack on the wall between the dinning
room and the kitchen, above the bar.
You can pull two cars inside but a truck may not fit. You can park 4 to 6 cars in the driveway side
by side. Make sure you are off the road! Across the street you can park any number of vehicles. You
can park a boat trailer or RV across the street, off the road.
Road Conditions & Maintenance
Drive safely and check the BigBearLakeWebcams.com before
you go to see the actual weather conditions
on the day of your trip. Also check the road conditions on Highway 18, 330 and Highway 38.
Lofts
No one likes extra work or extra costs. Please try not to mess up beds and areas you don't use. If
you don't use a bed, please straighten the bedspread or comforter if someone in your group sits on it.
Bringing your own Boat or Watercraft
If you are planning to take your own boat of any size up to Big Bear Lake, check it very carefully
for muscles or anything that might be growing on it. Big Bear Lake has very stringent rules and might
not let you take the boat on the water. Call them if you see anything on your boat. It is very sad to see
people pull boats all the way up the hill and not get them on the water.
